Why Your Next Getaway Trip Should be in Joshua Tree

Updated: Oct 2, 2018

I’ve been dying to go to Joshua Tree for I don’t know how long and my honey surprised me with a weekend getaway trip a couple weekends ago!

It was absolutely perfect in every possible way. We’ve both been feeling a bit stressed out at work and wanted some time to get away to RELAX.

That’s exactly what we did.

We began our trip after work on Friday evening and played all of our favorite songs by artists we’d be catching at Life is Beautiful in Vegas, talked about our goals, our future and couldn’t stop making each other laugh. I would LITERALLY tell him to stop or I was going to pee my pants!

Once we checked into our Airbnb, we both jumped into, "BRB, never coming back to LA" mode… until Sunday’s check out time of course. Haha!

Anyways, I’ve listed below all the things we did from beginning to end and linked my top things to do/see in Joshua Tree for those interested/planning to go there soon!

Friday Evening

We ended up leaving after work on a Friday and definitely hit some traffic getting out of LA. When it should've taken us the normal 2 hours, it took us 3.5 hours to get to JT!!! Yikes! Nothing a little roadside stop couldn't fix!

  1. Obligatory In-n-Out stop on the way there (there’s so many locations en route!)

  2. Air Bnb Check-In

  3. Jacuzzi – The jacuzzi was absolutely perfect at the end of the night!! We talked all night, with a glass of wine in hand, and looked up at all the stars in amazement!

  4. See where we stayed here: Coyote Hole Holiday House

  5. Movie Time – Avatar. Our Airbnb had Roku which allowed us to log in and watch a movie of our choice!

  6. SLEEP

Saturday Morning – Afternoon

Rise and shine!!! I woke up at 6:30am ready to take on Joshua Tree! I made some coffee, took some photographs of the place and caught up on some emails while I waited for my honey to wake up!

  1. Joshua Tree National Park - We started our day at the Joshua Tree Visitors Center which was conveniently down the street from our Air Bnb. When we got there, they gave us so much information about the park along with the fact that there was a meteor shower happening while we happened to be there!!! HOW COOL!

  2. Things not to miss - Hidden Valley & Jumbo Rocks

  3. Lunch Time - Headed back and picked up Subway along the way! Wish we were more prepared and maybe brought the sandwiches with us so we could've spent more time hiking but a break from the sun was a good idea.

  4. Got into the cold two-person pool and relaxed

Saturday Evening

After taking some time off from the sun and really digging into major relaxing vibes, it was time to hit the town!

  1. Checked out Pioneertown - About 30-min away, is an old western themed town! We got there after all the shops were already closed BUT the restaurant, Pappy & Harriett’s was open with live music and delicious drinks!

  2. Pappy & Harriet’s - We were honestly just going to come here to grab a drink and then go to the Joshua Tree Saloon BUT once we saw that they had a smoker outside and smelled the ribs… WE HAD TO STAY. Be ready to wait about an hour and half! SO WORTH IT THOUGH!

Sunday Morning

NOOOO, the Sunday scaries had us feeling some type of way that morning. The realization started setting in that our beautiful and relaxing weekend was coming to an end! However, we were able to squeeze one more hike before our generous 3 P.M. check out time.

We found other hiking trails near Joshua TreeSome of those searches brought us to Rattlesnake Canyon. It was so fun climbing on all the boulders, definitely worked up a sweat! Didn't find any rattlesnakes (THANK GOODNESS) but I maybe jumped 10 feet when a rabbit hopped out of a nearby bush!

Hope you enjoy your next trip to Joshua Tree! Let me know how it goes!

Always Wavy
